Decision Making on HB 2332 and HB 2002 has been scheduled for Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, at 2:15 p.m. in Room 309.

HB 2332 would eliminate the Department of Education and the Board of Education and establish elected local school boards in at least 7 independent school districts. The duties of the local school boards would include: the appointment of the respective district superintendents; and the appointment of performance-based contracts of principals within the district.

HB 2002 would implement education reform and decentralization measures, as well as, establish a student weighted formula for providing operating monies to individual public schools), following the decision making.

If we are to convince the legislators to support the concept of letting the people decide on the matter of local school boards, we must have a presence at the Decision Making and Hearing. We urge you all to attend if you can or send in testimonies in support of HB 2332.

Testimonies can be emailed to: charlene.ahlo@hawaii.gov. Please include the following in the top line of your testimony: Support of HB 2332 and please include your name, address and phone number.

Mahalo for all your support for our efforts and to help move our governor’s agenda forward. Hope to see you there.

    Aloha
