City’s rail rendering

BY CLIFF SLATER – At Thursday’s Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation Board of Directors Meeting, CEO Dan Grabauskas outlined the reasons for, and range of, the time delays that the Hawaii State Supreme Court’s recent unanimous decision is causing — and that is only if no iwi kupuna are found.

He said construction will be delayed at least 6 to 9 months.

If any burials are found, and that is almost a certainty in the Downtown Honolulu area, the delay will be even longer.

Of course, if Honolulu Traffic.com and the other 7 plaintiffs prevail in our federal lawsuit challenging the city’s Environmental Impact Statement either in court or on appeal, that is a whole different matter. We believe that the outcome of such an event will, in the long run, result in a new Alternatives Analysis that the rail project will not survive.
