Hawaii Army National Guard Soldier who died during PT test is identified

Hawaii Army National Guard logoHONOLULU- The Hawaii Army National Guard (HIARNG) Soldier died early Friday morning while performing the Army Physical Fitness Test was Sergeant Dwayne K. Torres, 32, of Ewa Beach. Sgt. Torres was a recruiter with the HIARNG and was married.

Sgt. Torres was a 2000 Aiea High School graduate and played football for Na Alii. He joined the HIARNG in 2002 and deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2004-2005 as a petroleum supply specialist with Company C, 193rd Aviation of the HIARNG. He was an avid car enthusiast.

The cause of death is still unknown. The family has requested privacy at this time. The HIARNG has assigned a Casualty Assistance Officer to support the family.
