Hawaii-based Soldier killed in Afghanistan

The Department of Defense announced today the death of an 8th Theater Sustainment Command Soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Spc. Andrew C. Wilfahrt, 31, a military policeman assigned to the 552nd Military Police Company, died Feb. 27 in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his patrol using an improvised explosive device.  He is a native of Rosemont, Minn., and is survived by his parents.

While in Afghanistan, the 552nd Military Police Company is assigned to the 504th Military Police Battalion.  When not deployed, the company is assigned to the 728th Military Police Battalion, 8th Military Police Brigade, 8th Theater Sustainment Command, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

Wilfahrt enlisted in the Army in January 2009 and has been assigned to the 728th Military Police Battalion since July 2009.  He deployed to Afghanistan in July 2010.
