President Barack Obama gives his State of the Union address on Capitol Hill in Washington Feb. 12, 2013
By David Chang– President Obama’s State of the Union Address did not seriously address the most pressing issues Americans face: job creation and the economy. With 7.9% unemployment rate, $16.5 trillion national debt, a negative growth rate the last three months of 2012, and over 1,300 days without a budget from the United States Senate, it is time to get our fiscal house in order.
We must balance our budget, not through higher taxes but reducing government spending and enacting meaningful reforms.

The American dream isn’t achieved through more government, but a vibrant free economy where people have the opportunity to succeed. Ronald Reagan and John F. Kennedy both knew that our free enterprise economy is the source of prosperity for all Americans, regardless of where we came from.

President Obama, unfortunately, believes free enterprise economy is the cause of our problems.

We need to be serious about job creation, we need to be serious about reducing our deficit, and we need to be serious about spending reform. Hawaii voters know that we need serious solutions, not just words and higher taxes.

Taxes have already gone up, not just for the rich but on every American that collects a paycheck. Hawaii voters want less talk and more action. Now is the time for real reforms and real solutions that puts more money in our pockets and creates a better future for our keiki.
