David M. Louie, state attorney general

BALLOT NEWSHONOLULU, Hawaii: Newly-elected Democratic Governor Neil Abercrombie announced his selection of David M. Louie as the state’s new state attorney general shortly before the Christmas holiday on Sunday, December 19th, 2010. [1] Hawaii is only one of four states that gives its governor the authority to appointment an individual as the state’s top law enforcer.

The Honolulu attorney was selected to succeed Republican Mark J. Bennett, who has served in the statewide executive position since being named to the office in January 2003 by Republican Governor Linda Lingle.

Louie stated that he was “humbled, thankful and grateful” for the nomination from Abercrombie and that after taking a few weeks to wrap up issues with the Honolulu-based private practice of Roeca, Louie, & Hiraoka, where he has served as both an attorney and a partner for the past thirty-three years, he will be ready to tackle the number of political subjects facing the state in the coming years, including unfunded federal mandates to Medicare and Medicaid. [2]
