Small Business Hawaii Education Foundation Sponsors Congressional Medal of Honor Essay Contest

The Small Business Hawaii Entrepreneurial Education Foundation will participate and honor our American military Congressional Medal of Honor winners during the historic Medal of Honor Convention in Honolulu, in October, 2012. A record total of 53 of 85 living Congressional Medal of Honor awardees—our Nation’s highest award for valor—will gather in Honolulu during their convention.

ESSAY CONTEST – The Small Business Hawaii Entrepreneurial Education Foundation, in conjunction with the Oahu Veterans Council, Navy League, Civil Air Patrol Cadets, DAV and Hawaii Youth Challenge, is sponsoring a patriotic essay contest for Hawaii students.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE? This contest is open to all Hawaii Students, public and private, especially JROTC, Civil Air Patrol Cadets, Winners’ Camp, Sea Cadet, and Hawaii Youth Challenge students, grades 10 -12.

THEME OF THE ESSAY The theme of the essay is: “What Are The Unique Characteristics of a Medal of Honor Recipient?”

LENGTH OF ESSAY  The Length of the essay is 500  original words. Paper or electronic copy accepted.

DEADLINE   The deadline for receipt of the essay is noon, Friday, September 21, 2012.

WHERE TO SUBMIT  The completed essay should be submitted to school or sponsoring institution where information was distributed, OR to the SBH Foundation (www.sbhfoundation.org, or email SBH@lava.net ) 6600 Kalanianaole Highway, Suite 212, Honolulu, HI 96825. Each school or sponsoring institution will determine its winner; all winners will be submitted to a panel of judges chosen by the Oahu Veterans Council who will make the final decisions.

PRIZES  $1,000 for 1st place; $500 for 2nd place, $250 for 3rd place and. Honorable Mention. Awards presented by a Medal of Honor recipient at a public ceremony at Punchbowl, during the week of October 6, 2012.
