    Ho`ala School’s first series of Parenting Workshops will begin Thursday, September 16th from 6:30 – 8:30pm.  Four more classes will follow each Thursday through October 14th which will complete this 5-week series.   Child care will be available for school age children for donations.

    Parents have shared in the past: “…(we) have benefited tremendously from attending the …
    parenting workshops conducted by Jef Fern. We were struggling as parents trying to raise our teenage son but after attending the workshops, we have a better understanding on why things happen the way they do and how to handle the situation for a “win win” outcome. Our family is no where near perfect, but Ho’ala School has not only nurtured our son but has also nurtured our skills on how to be better parents…”

    The purpose of Parenting Workshops is to explore with parents and teachers the context of parenting as practiced in the Ho`ala Philosophy of Education.  Participants will consider ways to structuring their homes to support mutual respect, cooperation and effective action.

    Some examples of topics covered:

    *How adults can support children in shifting inappropriate attention getting behaviors;

    *How to set up logical consequences;

    *How to use natural consequences effectively;

    *How to set up effective family meetings;

    *How to promote clear and effective communication, and more.Ho`ala School’s Parenting Workshops recently won a national award from the Character Education Partnership called the “Promising Practices Award.”
