REPORT FROM ETN– Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell today signed a bill that would ban smoking at Oahu’s Kapiolani Park, Kuhio Beach Park, the beach side of Ala Moana Regional Park, Sandy Beach Park, Duke Kahanamoku Beach Park, Kapiolani Beach Park and Kapiolani Park Beach Center.
The ban takes effect immediately. Violators will be subject to fines of up to $100 for a first offense, $200 for a second offense within 12 months and $500 for subsequent offenses.
Prior to this bill, smoking was allowed at all city parks and beaches, with Hanauma Bay Preserve being the only exception.
According to Parks Director Toni Robinson, an additional bill will be needed in order to fully enforce the new law. Due to a technical glitch, separate language changes to the Revised Ordinances of Honolulu will be required to allow enforcement of the ban.
Mayor Caldwell also implied that he would support a smoking ban at all city beaches and parks.
Is alcohol still allowed? Are 32oz sodas?

Smoking should be legal outside! What happens if I smoke inside my own beach house and the smoke gets out?
I'm not a smoker but I still don't agree with this. Smokers should be able to smoke outside. What's next? Banning smoking altogether?
Is stupidity to ban smoking on beaches. I want to go there and have a relaxed time, not to be nervous because I can't smoke.
