That Honolulu Police Commission flap strikes this journalist as much ado about nothing.
The commission said it had changed its mind and wanted six candidates submitted by the screeners rather than four. So what? I take commission chairwoman Christine Camp at face value when she says commission members didn’t have a clue who the next two on the list would be. That’s too checkable a thing to tell as a bald-faced lie.
But who cares whether they pick from two, four or six? Or twelve?
Why do the screeners care? They just screen. End of job.
Why all this fuss by the City Council?
It’s political overkill. Pick a chief already!
