Need to know about the proposed rail transit on Oahu?
First, the rail will cost at least $4 billion.
At first the city administration said rail would cost $2.7 billion from Kapolei to Iwilei.
Then the administration added a line from Iwilei to University of Hawaii over the H-1 freeway with a spur to Waikiki.
That’s an easy $4 billion.
Second, it will not take any cars off the road.
The Parsons Brinckerhoff engineers admitted this, and that rail would do nothing to improve traffic, under questioning at the recent Scoping Meeting.
There are better solutions — more affordable and effective solutions — to improve traffic congestion in Honolulu.
