Recent high surf and beach erosion have prompted the City to relocate the Kailua Beach Park lifeguard tower.

On Monday, January 8, 2007, the Ocean Safety and Lifeguard Division determined that unusually high surf and subsequent erosion threatened the lifeguard tower. Workers from the Department of Parks and Recreation used heavy equipment to move the tower to a temporary location in the park. The move did not interrupt or hamper lifeguard services.
