Better sweet but true, Kamehameha Schools and its for-profit subsidiary KBH, Inc., the owner of Keauhou Beach Resort, says that they will close the lovely hotel at Kahalu’u Beach on Hawaii Island’s west side on October 31, 2012 and remove it.

That will be a sad day for many who share memories of family functions enjoyed at this location, but the future could hold grander themes…

Future Plans for the Current Keauhou Beach Resort Property

The future plan is to promote this area’s rich Hawaiian history by restoring ancient sites and beginning to educate Malahini (visitors) and Kaamaina (locals) alike about the culture, music, and dance of the Hawaiian people from this location.

The Keauhou Area – A Great Community

The photo below was taken from a Keauhou home (MLS# 250466) and has views of Kahalu’u Bay and Keauhou Resort (seen in the distance); seaward of the resort are Ancient Heiau (places of worship in ancient times)! This home is close to the beach and provides the ability to watch the surfers and snorkel off of your doorstep daily. There is lots of fun to be had.

My children were raised in the Keauhou area and are now raising their own families who will continue to enjoy sun filled days swimming, shoreline fishing, snorkeling, and surfing at this amazing location.

Here is my son and grandson enjoying themselves at Kahalu’u!

One of the well known sites of this area are the Green Sea Turtles. They can be seen daily in the water and sleeping on the shore.

One of my favorite pastimes is Stand Up Paddling or SUP, a sport getting more and more popular. It is a great way to view the shoreline and reef sea life. This is a great community!

Enjoying my favorite pastime, stand up paddling
