Aid Trickles Into Remote Parts of Philippines

HONOLULU  – “Kokua For The Philippines,” a Hawaii-based radio, television and Internet benefit concert for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, will be held on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013 from noon to 5 p.m. The event, staged by Clear Channel Media + Entertainment Hawaii and Oceanic Time Warner Cable, will take place at the Great Lawn at Hilton Hawaiian Village and will be broadcast live on local radio and television stations and via the Internet. 

Producers from Ohana Broadcast Company, Kapono Inc., and Island Film Group will oversee the production. Proceeds from the phone bank and on-site gifts will be donated to the American Red Cross for disaster relief. Gifts designated to other non-profit organizations supporting the relief effort also can be accepted and their contributions will be included in the overall event total.

A complete list of participating entertainers will be released soon.

      “The people of Hawaii are so intertwined with our Pacific neighbors in the Philippines, that stepping up and supporting them during this time of great need is simply the right thing to do,” said Chuck Cotton, Vice President and General Manager of Clear Channel Media + Entertainment/Hawaii. “Some of Hawaii’s top entertainers will be coming together for an afternoon of songs, laughter and inspiration.”

“The people of the Philippines continue to be in our thoughts and prayers,” said Bob Barlow, President of Oceanic Time Warner Cable. “We’re so pleased to be involved in an event such as this that will bring together the people of Hawaii to raise much-needed funds for the typhoon victims.”

On-air personalities from Clear Channel Media + Entertainment/Hawaii and local broadcast and cable TV stations will host the program. Oceanic Time Warner Cable is providing television production. Additional support is being provided by the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.

Television stations scheduled to air the event (in whole or in part) include KFVE, KGMB, KHNL, KHON2, KIKU, KITV 4, CW, Me-TV, and OC 16.  The event will stream live on the websites of Clear Channel Media + Entertainment/Hawaii, OC 16, KHON2, KITV 4 and Hawaii News Now, as well as on the event website, www.kokuaforthephillipines.com. In addition, radio stations KSSK 92.3 FM, KSSK AM 590 and Island 985 will broadcast the event. Also, the event can be heard on mobile devices by downloading the iHeartRadio app.
