(Washington, DC) – The Log Cabin Republicans, the nation’s largest organization of gay and lesbian Republicans, announced its endorsement of Charles Djou for reelection to Hawaii’s First Congressional District.

“When Representative Charles Djou first arrived in Washington, DC he stood with Log Cabin Republicans and helped secure a bipartisan majority for repeal of ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ and has continued to work hand in hand for all Americans,” said Executive Director R. Clarke Cooper. “As a Captain in the United States Army Reserve, Djou knows that America needs to strengthen its armed forces, committing to stronger national security while defending liberty. Djou is a fierce conservative advocate, standing against wasteful government spending and reducing burdensome taxes on small business owners. As Republicans look to restore fiscal discipline in Congress, they will be fortunate to have Djou as a second term congressman leading the fight.”

Djou is the 2010 recipient of the Log Cabin Republicans Spirit of Lincoln award for his commitment to gay and lesbian Americans.

Log Cabin Republicans promotes legislation to provide basic fairness for gay and lesbian Americans and works to build a more inclusive GOP.  The 30-year old organization has state and local chapters nationwide, a full-time office in Washington, DC, a federal political action committee and state political action committees.
