The Hawaii County Council seems obsessed with finding the most expensive possible waste disposal technology for East Hawaii. With solid waste handling companies falling all over each other to offer free construction of sort stations and waste-to-energy facilities, the Council instead votes to spend somewhere between $35 million to 75 million to close out the Hilo landfill and construct a sort-station which some say is merely a handling facility to load up trucks for the 2-hour drive through traffic-jammed Kamuela to North Kona
