Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann will announces his plan at 4:30 p.m. today, May 27, from Fern Elementary School in Kalihi to run as a Democrat for Hawaii governor.
The announcement will be made live at www.votemufi.com. The live stream will begin at 4:30 p.m.
Lt. Gov. James Duke Aiona, who is running for governor as a Republican, issued a statement today about Hannemann’s decision: “I look forward to putting my support for Hawaii’s working families and small businesses against his record of raising taxes and increasing the cost of living for our residents on Oahu. Hawaii can’t afford him. I’m running for Governor to ensure balance, integrity and accountability in state government while reducing the financial burden on our working families and small businesses, creating jobs and investing in the quality of our education system so all of Hawai`i’s children have a brighter future.”
