When House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi spent her Christmas and New Years holidays in on the Big Island of Hawaii, county taxpayers picked up part of the bill.
Marshall Kanehailua, Assistant Chief with the Hawaii Police Department in Hilo, confirmed local police escorted Pelosi during her vacation at a cost of $27,127.
Over the last three years, Hawaii county taxpayers paid $61,127 for local police to escort Pelosi. That money is not reimbursed.
Federal security also is provided for her, but Capitol police have refused to release the cost.
Pelosi does pay for her own travel and accommodations.
The Four Seasons Resort Hualalai’s details its luxurious setting and amenities on its web site: “Gloriously revitalised, this natural tropical paradise offers more than ever to explore – with a newly expanded Spa, beachfront dining, fashion boutiques and new Deluxe Suites, in addition to Jack Nicklaus signature golf. Set on the Big Island’s exclusive Kona-Kohala Coast, this showpiece resort captures the essence of Hawaiian design, culture and tradition.”
This year, her spokesperson refused to provide details about Pelosi’s accommodations.
