REPORT FROM KAUAI COUNTY – Kaua’i police have identified the suspect in Saturday’s shooting in Kalāheo as William Ray Seibert, age 67.

Detectives have confirmed Seibert died of a self-inflicted single gunshot wound to his head, consistent with witness accounts of the event.

Police have also learned that a second man, Bryant Hironaka, has died.

Hironaka, age 59, suffered an apparent heart attack after witnessing Saturday’s shooting.

The incident began at around 4:15 p.m. when Seibert, armed with a handgun, reportedly walked from his house on Puuwai Road to his neighbor’s home across the street. The couple who lived in the home noticed Seibert approaching and quickly ran inside, locking the door behind them.

Seibert fired multiple shots at the couple through the front door before turning the gun on himself.

The intended victims escaped injury, but Hironaka, another neighbor who witnessed the incident, apparently suffered a heart attack. Hironaka was originally transported to Wilcox Hospital but was medevaced early yesterday morning to Queen’s Hospital in critical condition. He died earlier today.

The incident remains under investigation.
