BY ALEX ISENSTADT – House Republicans plan to spend $50 million in 65 races in an all-out effort to win the majority. But almost none of it is going toward incumbent protection.
As the National Republican Congressional Committee plots out a final blueprint to expand the electoral playing field, the House GOP campaign arm has made a cold and deliberate calculation: to concentrate nearly all of its financial firepower on Democratic-held seats, rather than on defending its own endangered seats.
To date, the NRCC has aired commercials in only two GOP-held seats: Hawaii’s 1st District, where GOP Rep. Charles Djou is seeking his first full term, and the open Illinois 10th District, which GOP Rep. Mark Kirk is leaving to run for the Senate.
