President George W. Bush today nominated a federal appeals court judge with a Hawaii connection to succeed U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor.

John C. Roberts Jr., on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit since 2003, was the attorney who represented the state of Hawaii in ”’Rice vs. Cayetano”’, a case he argued before the U.S. Supreme Court.
