Kapalua, Maui, Hawaii – After a dramatic finish at the CIMB Classic last week, Ryan Moore captured his third career PGA TOUR victory in a sudden death playoff with Gary Woodland. With his victory, Moore secured one of the final spots for the 2014 Hyundai Tournament of Champions. As the 2013-14 PGA TOUR season gears up, just three spots remain in the winners-only event when it returns to the Plantation Course at Kapalua from Jan. 3-6, 2014.
This was Moore’s third trip to the CIMB Classic, but his first start since 2011 when he withdrew from the tournament after the third round. At the end of round four, Moore and Gary Woodland were tied at 14-under and returned on Monday morning for a sudden-death playoff. Moore’s birdie on the par-5 18th hole was enough to win on the first playoff hole, and collect his first victory since the 2012 Shriners Hospital for Children Open.
Moore has played in both Hyundai Tournament of Champions that he qualified for, in 2010 and 2013. His best finish at the event was T6 in 2010, and he finished T26 when he returned in 2013.
Moore said of qualifying for the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, “It’s almost one of the first things you think about when you win – and Maui is one of the great perks of being a champion on the PGA TOUR.”
The World Gold Championships–HSBC Champions, The McGladrey Classic and the OHL Classic at Mayakoba are the only remaining events for players to qualify for the 2014 Hyundai Tournament of Champions. Moore is the thirty-fourth player to qualify for the tournament, the full list is below.
