HONOLULU, HAWAII—The Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve will be closed for two extra days next week so that workers can safely address potential rockfall hazards.
The bay is normally closed on Tuesdays, and work will begin on Tuesday, October 11. The bay will remain closed through Thursday, October 13, and is expected to reopen on Friday, October 14.
Loose rocks and debris have been identified on a slope above the roadway that provides access to the beach for park visitors and employees. Safety precautions require closing the bay while workers remove or stabilize the potential hazards.
