REPORT FROM SEN. SCHATZ’S OFFICE – Senator Brian Schatz returns to Hawai`i for the first time since being appointed to fill Senator Daniel K. Inouye’s seat on December 26, 2012.  During the week of January 14, 2013, Senator Schatz will participate in two public events.

On Monday, January 14, Senator Schatz will join Governor Neil Abercrombie and members of the state Legislature in honoring former U.S. Senator Daniel K. Akaka as he is inducted to the inaugural Aloha Order of Merit.

“Senator Akaka has served the people of Hawai’i as no one else has, both in what he has achieved for us and the manner in which he has achieved it.  He reflects with extraordinary island excellence who we are as a people,” stated Schatz.

Established within the Office of the Governor, the Aloha Order of Merit honors individuals who have achieved national or international recognition through their efforts to serve the people of the State of Hawai`i.

Senator Schatz will also attend the Opening Day of the 2013 Legislative Session at the Hawai`i State Capitol Building on Wednesday, January 16.

At the end of the week, Senator Schatz will return to Washington, D.C. to continue his work with Hawai‘i`s congressional delegation.

  1. When Lex Brodie was on the board from 1992 to 2003, he visited every public school on every island, and he did so without an appointment so he would get a true picture of what was happening on each campus.
