Chief Justice Mark E. Recktenwald today appointed Kevin A. Souza to the District Family Court of the First Circuit (Oahu).
Souza has served as a per diem judge in the District Family Court on Oahu since February 2012, and has a private law practice specializing in criminal defense and civil litigation.
He previously served as an associate at McCorriston Miho Miller Mukai, as a senior trial attorney at the Office of the Public Defender, and as the Chief of Staff for former Lt. Governor James R. “Duke” Aiona.
He is a 1997 graduate of the William S. Richardson School of Law.
The chief justice appoints District Family Court judges from a list of not less than six nominees submitted by the Judicial Selection Commission.
If confirmed by the State Senate, Souza will serve in office for six years.
Souza fills a new position created by the 2012 Legislature under Act 107, Session Laws of Hawaii.
