The Department of Land and Natural Resources’ Board, on August 14, 2009, approved a plan to charge parking fees at Nuuanu Pali and other state parks, to help underwrite the state park’s “Recreational Renaissance” Plan B.

We don’t question the need and conditions of the State Parks system and its “Recreational Renaissance” plan. But we strongly object to DLNR’s misguided and irrational policies.

Imposing onerous parking charges to help underwrite the broader costs of DLNR’s “Recreational Renaissance” plan unacceptably extends the scope of a “user fee” dedicated for a specific purpose.
