The Department of Defense announced today the death of four soldiers who were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
They died May 23, in Kunar province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked their unit with an improvised explosive device. They
were assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.
Killed were:
- Staff Sgt. Kristofferson B. Lorenzo, 33, of Chula Vista, Calif.,
- Pfc. William S. Blevins, 21, of Sardinia, Ohio,
- Pvt. Andrew M. Krippner, 20, Garland, Texas. and
- Pfc. Thomas C. Allers, 23, of Plainwell, Mich.
Staff Sgt. Kristofferson B. Lorenzo was an 11B (infantryman), home of record Chula Vista, CA. His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal (5 oak leaf clusters), Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Expert Infantryman’s Badge, Airborne Badge, Driver’s Badge and the Purple Heart. This was Staff Sgt. Lorenzo’s third deployment (1 Iraq, 2
Afghanistan).
Pvt. 1st Class William S. Blevins was an 11B (infantryman), home of record Sardinia, Ohio. His awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Purple Heart and Overseas Ribbon. This was Pvt. 1st Class Blevins’ first deployment.
Pvt. Andrew M. Krippner was an 11B (infantryman), home of record Garland, Texas. His awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Overseas Service Ribbon and the Purple Heart. This was Pvt. Krippner’s first deployment.
Pvt. Thomas C. Allers, was an 11B (infantryman), home of record Plainwell, MI. Awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Purple Heart and Overseas Service Ribbon. This was Pvt. Allers’ first deployment.
