U.S. Senator’s Credit Card Theft Gets National Attention
In a news story – “What’s the charge for stealing a U.S. senator’s credit card?” – Fox News reports on Hawaii’s U.S. Senator Daniel Inouye’s credit card information being stolen.
“The senator was told about the theft in February, but it was not until October that one of the two people accused of stealing it, Trianna Chenee Moss, 20, appeared in a Georgia court. She is accused of helping two others purchase $12,000 worth of Walmart gift cards and other items using fake credit cards with real account numbers. Sen. Inouye’s account number was among them. Moss’s role, it turns out, was to be at the cash register at the Walmart where she worked, and at least one other person, who is still on the run, would always come to her register. Would not want to be in her shoes right now.”
Politico: Lingle Says GOP overplays Christianity
Politico is reporting on recent comments made by U.S. Senate Candidate Linda Lingle at the Western Republican Leadership Conference. The comments, that are documented in The Hill, take a “pointed swipe at her party’s relentless focus on Christianity,” Politico says.
Lingle, a Jew, told GOP activists that sitting in Republican functions and hearing God referred to in only one way made her keenly aware of how many feel left out by the party, to its own electoral detriment.
“I understand the strength of the Christian faith, but I’m telling you that it makes people feel excluded and not included,” she said. “They may never say anything to you, but I’ll tell you, they feel it, and when they feel it, they don’t join us.”
Politco’s David Catanese writes: “Lingle, whom Republicans courted as the top recruit for taking back Hawaii’s open Senate seat, has made no bones about distinguishing herself from national Republican brand. She’ll have to in order to win a state President Obama won with 72 percent of the vote in 2008. These comments won’t sit well with the evangelical/cultural wing of the party, but then again Lingle probably isn’t seeking the seal of approval from Tony Perkins and Jim DeMint.”
Lingle is the former governor of the state of Hawaii (2002-2010) and she has battled former Hawaii GOP Jonah-Kuhio Kaauwai, a social and fiscal conservative, when he took the party in a more socially conservative direction and spoke about Jesus and Christianity at Republican events.
Kaauwai resigned as the elected party chair under pressure from Lingle in late September.
Lingle, National Party chairwoman Miriam Hellreich, former Congressman Charles Djou and former heads of the Hawaii GOP including Brennon Morioka, reportedly participated in the campaign to have Ka’auwai replaced.
KHVH News Radio’s Mike Buck Replaced with Nationally Syndicated Glenn Beck
Clear Channel’s talk radio station, KHVH News Radio, which airs Hawaii Reporter’s news reports daily, has made some major changes to its weekday talk show programming.
Rick Hamada, who aired his show between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m., Monday through Friday, will get to sleep in one hour later. His show now airs from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. His show is followed by Rush Limbaugh (who was formerly on from 9 a.m. to 12 noon), but Limbaugh will now be on from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fox News’ Sean Hannity will remain on the air following Rush, but instead of running from noon to 3 p.m., Hannity will start at 1 p.m.
Local talk show host Mike Buck had previously followed Hannity from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. but now the nationally syndicated talk show host Glenn Beck will take his place.
Clear Channel had to lay off several employees last week because of the economy, and those cuts impacted KHVH in addition to other Clear Channel stations.
