The University of Hawai’i at Mānoa Library has been actively and aggressively developing its social media channels to inform and generate interest and support from the student body, faculty and local community for the past two years.

The social media team includes: Erenst Anip, Melissa Arakawa, Melissa Kahili and Teri Skillman. The goal has been to inform the community about the Library’s initiatives, services and collections, as well as broaden the community’s information base and to encourage connectivity.  Ultimately, they want to see the community in the Library and engaging with its resources.

Anip linked the social media accounts — Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr and GooglePlus. Team members search for interesting content to share and initiate conversations.  Library events and services are the anchor for the social media efforts.

The Library’s efforts have paid off.  LibraryScienceList.com, a social community for librarians, searched social media platforms to find 442 Libraries using accounts to promote services, activities, and social interaction with patrons.  Using data from social media, they came up with a list 100 Most Social Media Friendly College & University Libraries for 2013.  The UH Mānoa Library is ranked number 20 on the list.  Please visit the UH Mānoa Library on social media and in the Library (Hamilton & Sinclair).
