(Pearl Harbor, HI) – The Pearl Harbor-based guided missile destroyer USS Chafee (DDG 90) is scheduled to return from an independent deployment to the 7th Fleet’s area of responsibility in the Western Pacific.
USS Chafee is commanded by Cmdr. Chase Patrick, with a crew of more than 250 officers and enlisted personnel.
While on deployment, Chafee took part in Exercise Malabar 2010, a week-long bilateral military exercise hosted by the Indian Navy that aims to promote the interoperability between the United States and India. Chafee also participated in operations supporting Commander Task Force 70.
Guided-missile destroyers are multi-mission surface combatants, capable of Anti-Air Warfare (AAW), Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW), and Anti-Surface Warfare (ASUW) missions. Â They operate independently for support of carrier and expeditionary strike groups.
