The U.S. trade deficit widened slightly in April to $40.29 billion as the value of crude imports hit the highest level in a year and a half. Exports and imports both declined from the previous month.
Separately, claims for new jobless benefits fell just 3,000 in the latest week, indicating improvement in the labor market continues to come at a slow pace.
